Conditions for Success for future junior tennis pro

The subject of the article is to define all the necessary conditions to have the best chances to have the success. If one of these condition is missing, the chances for failing are increasing very quickly.

1 To have a player with the potential

This is the first condition to consider any project. Without this condition, nothing serious can be planned. The only question is how to know if this player has a potential. Then, what kind of potential: Top 500, Top 100, Top 20, Top 10?
There is no rule as everybody’s different and tennis requires so many different qualities and abilities that you’ll always find some strengths and weaknesses in all of them. You have to decide and slowly, with experience, you’ll be closer and closer to truth.

2 The player has to have the will and dedication

The road is going to be long and tough. A daily and unfailing motivation and dedication is necessary.

3 Have the support of the family for the achievement of the goal

The roots are very important. It is the only thing that will stay forever and whatever happens. It gives the necessary stability for the player. This support has to be there. The parents, whether they are physically present or not, have to give the player the feeling that they are behind the player and his project.

4 A very professional structure

“Being professional” are words. Behind these words are a lot of things:
a Being able to understand the player in order to use his strength to build him.
b Having a vision of the future game of that player.
c Working daily, seriously, with intensity and dedication.
d Being sure that nothing is forgotten in any area: technical, tactical, mental, physical, food, schedule of tournaments, material, recovery, medical side, taking into consideration the feelings of the player, his growth …
On the road to success, players need those kind of persons around them.

5 Confidence between the actors

There are a lot of actors around the player: the parents, the coach, the fitness coach, the manager….
For two main reasons, this condition has to be there. First for the player that will need to feel that his Team is working together for his development. If he feels that something is missing, that the relations are not so good, that one is not trusting the other, it will for sure affect his confidence in the persons around him and after that, his own confidence.
More, it will put him in a position where he won’t know who to trust and to follow. To make a great work, confidence has to be there.

6 Time

Rome wasn’t built in one day! The subject is to build a Top Professional Player. It takes time, a lot of time…
Time requires patience. Both the player and the parents have to be patient. I’ve seen so many times parents expecting quick good results and questioning absolutely everything each time the player doesn’t get the expected result.. This kind of behaviour just hurts everybody. First it hurts the player who is in the situation of lack of confidence between the actors I’ve talked about in the fifth point. Then it puts a much too big pressure on the coach and a bad one. He may then expect short time results instead of long term ones. Time is a very important issue.

7 A financial support

The professional structure costs a lot of money. Financial side is also a condition for success. Thousands of very talented and promising players will never go through just because of no funds. No funds means no structure, no professional, no tournaments… no chance!

8 A Commitment

Life is about commitments and I can also say that great achievements always take place in the framework of a commitment.
Player, family and the professional structure have to go to a commitment.

This is the equation that has to be solved:
Player with a potential + Will and dedication + Support of the family + Confidence between the actors + Time + A Professional structure + A financial support + A Commitment = SUCCESS
